Redskins hire Bruce Allen to replace Vinny Cerrato as GM Photo

Hours after the resignation of Vinny Cerrato, the Redskins hired Bruce Allen as executive VP and general manager on Thursday.
Allen, the son of former Redskins coach George Allen, is the former GM of the Raiders and Bucs, from whom he was fired in January.
“Bruce Allen is the personification of an NFL winner,” team owner Daniel Snyder said in a statement. “Our fans know his heritage; we know his abilities. He is the right person to lead our club.”
It’s unclear whether Snyder adhered to the terms of the Rooney Rule that requires NFL teams to interview minority candidates for openings at head coach and general manager.
Allen will begin working with the Redskins immediately. His first major decision could be whether to retain head coach Jim Zorn, who has gone 12-17 through two seasons in Washington.
